“How can I work and live successfully in Germany?” was the question the SECAI scholarship holders discussed during the “Intercultural Competence” workshop on the 10th of April. Trainer Jyotika Dalal, M.A., engaged participants from seven different cultures in exploring their questions about German culture and its impact on academic traditions and the work environment. Through open conversations, the workshop created space for questions about understanding the German culture and integrating into it, overcoming prejudices, and understanding patterns of thinking and communication to break down intercultural barriers.

During the SECAI.Café on the 22nd of April, Master’s students in bioinformatics at the Leipzig University had the opportunity to learn about the current research projects conducted by the research staff of the Bioinformatics Chair. The goal was to provide early insights into ongoing research and support students in selecting a suitable topic for their Master's thesis. Fellow Peter Stadler opened the event, which provided an overview of 18 research projects currently being conducted. Following this, participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas and make initial contacts with professionals in an informal atmosphere.

During a workshop on the 21st of May with Birgit Brand from the Career Service of TU Dresden, SECAI scholarship holders gained practical insights into the German job market and the application process. The session focused on the content and structure of a successful CV, including important do’s and don’ts for applications in Germany. Participants also received a brief overview of the current job market in Dresden and Saxony, helping them better understand local career opportunities and expectations. Following the presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask individual questions and receive personalized feedback on their CVs through an individual CV check.

The final SECAI.Café of the semester, the much-anticipated Summer Gathering, took place on 22nd of July at the beautiful pond garden near the office building. The day was dedicated to an informal meeting and celebration of the incredible diversity within SECAI. A cultural buffet featured flavors from around the world, as participants brought sweets from their cultures. The day invited reflection on the community coming together through a shared interest in advancing AI and the importance of connecting and celebrating each other's cultural heritage.

The SECAI.Cafés will be back in October with the kick-off event for the 2026/27 edition of the event series.
