Professor Anne Lauber-Rönsberg Elected as new Deputy Member of the Saxon Constitutional Court
Fellow Anne Lauber-Rönsberg from TU Dresden was elected as a deputy non-professional judge member of the Constitutional Court of the Free State of Saxony by the Saxon State Parliament on the recommendation of the State Parliament Presidium. The Constitutional Court of the Free State of Saxony, based in Leipzig, consists of five professional judges and four non-professional judges, who are elected by the state parliament by a two-thirds majority for a term of nine years. A deputy is elected for each member.
„Constitutional jurisdiction at state and federal level is one of the central foundations of our constitutional order. The Saxon Constitution assigns this important function to the Constitutional Court in Saxony. In over thirty years, the Constitutional Court has decisively shaped our Free State with its jurisdiction. I am therefore delighted that the state parliament has today decided in favour of three outstanding lawyers, thereby strengthening the constitutional jurisdiction in Saxony as a whole, “ says Justice Minister Katja Meier.
„Important and forward-looking topics are negotiated here. This also applies to the use of digital technologies, which increasingly raise questions within the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court and require clarification. For example, the question of video surveillance in public places, “ emphasises Prof. Lauber-Rönsberg. „But there are also constitutional issues beyond this, which I would like to help clarify.“
